I have moved from coast to coast and across the pond. I’m originally from Newport, R.I. , one of a lively large family. I’ve also lived in southern Vermont, San Diego, San Francisco, New York and Southern England. This made me aware of both the joys and anxieties of moving.
In1992, after 12 exciting years in New York City, my husband and I felt ready for a more peaceful life and we moved to Austin. Just like that: NYC to Austin, Texas. What we discovered wasn’t the bustling city of today, but a progressive, slow-moving, sweet town with remnants of the 60’s and a colossal amount of potential for a great life. Soon enough we found our community and settled in.
I began my professional life here working as a Medical Speech Language Pathologist, but after10 years I found myself heavy-hearted. Simultaneously, Michael and I were buying and renovating small houses in the Bouldin area that I then sold. We figured it was the right time for me to follow in my father and grandfather’s footsteps and make Real Estate my profession. I am proud and happy to be the third generation Carter in the business and to call Your Move Realty, Inc. my own!
Since becoming a REALTOR/Broker, I’ve helped people buy and sell homes amounting to multi millions of dollars worth of real estate. I would say that my greatest strengths include knowledge of the market, fine tuned communication and effective negotiation skills. My clients have moved from the west coast, east coast, around the corner and as far away as London, the Netherlands and Asia. In each case, I was able to find them the perfect property that fit their needs.
I promise to take you in hand with information, patience, honesty and sound advice to make the process as simple, stress-free and as positive as possible. I never forget that “it’s your move.”

“Early last year my company proposed that I be transferred from London to Austin on a permanent basis. As I had been to Austin on a couple of occasions and knew of its reputation as a vibrant, quirky, liberal city with a lot going for it, we (my wife Roslyn and I) agreed to return to the U.S. and give it a try. As Austin also seemed incredibly affordable compared with all of the cities where we’d lived previously, we made the decision that this was the right moment to buy our first house together. From London I made a connection via email with Ali Carter and she had agreed to spend some time showing us the neighborhoods and real estate market in Austin. We arrived on a chilly day in early March and had exactly one week to find a place to live before our permanent move in April. Roslyn and I met with Ali on our first morning in town and immediately knew that we’d gotten very lucky to have found someone like her. Over the course of the next five days Ali spent at least half of each day with us showing us neighborhoods she thought we should consider and pulling dozens of listing off the MLS for us to see. Some of them we didn’t even have to get out of the car to know that it wasn’t for us. Others came under much more careful consideration. All through the week Ali hung in there with us – asking us the right kinds of questions, getting us to think about things that maybe we hadn’t considered, laughing along with some of the odd houses people try to sell. She also came to know us well enough to know when we needed space to just be a married couple for a little while and consider our choices. On one particularly frustrating day Ali encouraged us to take a long walk along Town Lake trail and just chill out. That afternoon remains one of my favorite memories of our first week in Austin… In the end we knew within 30 seconds of walking in that we’d found the right house for us…and Ali knew it too. It took all of five days and probably 35 or 40 walk-throughs in nearly every neighborhood of central Austin but we’d found a home. I can’t say enough about Ali’s patience, her sense of humor and her enthusiasm. She was a real find for us.” -

— CAli helped us find our first home. It can be a stressful process, but Ali's tireless enthusiasm and wise counsel took a lot of the weight off our shoulders. She really knows her stuff and it shows. It took us a lot of searching and many "not right" properties before we found the right fit. I can't even count how many homes we walked through. I got pretty discouraged at one point in the process, when the place I thought would be "the one" fell through. But Ali never wavered in her confidence that something even better was out there for us. Finally, we found a property that had everything we needed, and a year later, we are still in love with it!
